Obituary
MONONA/ APPLETON- Lois Jean Madison (Atkins), age 80, born in Oshkosh, on Sept. 12, 1929, passed away on July 10, 2010, at Rennes Health and Rehab Center in Appleton. She was the oldest daughter born to the late Lorraine and William Atkins. She is survived by her brother, William (Meg) Atkins of St. Paul, Minn.; her sister, Mary Ann (Ab) Logan of Baltimore, Md; four children, Gregory (Susan) Madson, Jeffrey (Michelle) Madson of Appleton, Gail (Michael) Juszczak of Lake Mills and James (Jacquelyn) Madson of Stevens Point; five grandchildren, Douglas (Kimberly Klawitter) Huelsman, Brandon Henning, Sarah Juszczak, Jacob Madson and Logan Madson. Her husband, Vernon Madson, preceded her in death in 2001. Lois was a teacher and librarian in the Madison school district for over 40 years. She earned a bachelors degree in education from Edgewood College in 1963 and earned her masters degree in library science from the University of Wisconsin when she was 41 years old. Lois will be fondly remembered by her students at Schenck Elementary School for illustrating the subjects of favorite children books with live animals. She loved to travel. The family made regular trips to Colorado to visit Verns parents. She and Vern enjoyed their trips to Hawaii and Branson, Mo., but her favorite trip was to China. Lois was also an avid gardener which led her to create and manage Party Colors, a commercial iris garden in her backyard. She lived most of her life in Monona. Lois spent her winters in Venice, Fla., and lived her last years in Appleton. She was a member of Monona Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m., at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Wednesday, July 14, 2010. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Alzheimers research. A special thank you to Rennes Health and Rehab staff for the excellent care provided to Lois during the last years of her life.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Wednesday.
