Obituary

Brisco, Helen J. MADISON-Helen J. Brisco, age 96, died on Monday, June 21, 2010, at St. Mary's Care Center. Helen was born on Dec. 21, 1913, in Superior, where she resided until 1941, when she moved to Madison and was employed by the Wisconsin Unemployment Department as a stenographer for 10 years. At that time she resigned to take a position as a secretary for the United States Air Force at Truax Field in Madison. Helen attained the position of court reporter for the base. After 18 years of employment, she left that position due to base-closing. She then went to work for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). She retired at age 69, and spent many years as a volunteer at Meriter Hospital and the Department of Transportation. Helen was proud of having been the first female secretary to work in the Wisconsin State Legislature, she was also the first female employee to work at Truax field. Helen had no family, but is survived by many friends she acquired throughout her years in Madison. At her request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. She expressed special thanks to some wonderful friends who helped her at the time when she needed it the most, the Bewick family, Lois, Val, Vicky and Chuck; as well as the staff at St. Mary's Care Center; her special nurse, Bobbie; and church friend, Gloria.
