MADISON-Edwin P. \"Ed\" Mercier, age 69, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, with family and friends by his side, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on Feb. 25, 1941, in Stanley and attended Owen-Withee High School. Ed worked for several trucking firms, retiring in 2001 from USF Holland. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and Teamsters Local No. 695. Ed was a compassionate man, with a kind heart, and a genuine concern for others. He often went out of his way to help them, expecting nothing in return. Ed loved spending time outdoors with family and friends. He especially enjoyed camping and riding his ATV. Ed is survived by daughter, Nicole (Tom) Konsitzke; son, Thomas J. Mercier; special friend, Jean Handeland; brothers, Peter (Carol) Mercier, and Richard (Judy) Mercier; sister, Jean Gruber; sister-in-law, Delores Mercier; brother-in-law, Edward Markielewski; several nieces and nephews, including special niece, Joann Mercier and special nephews, Mark Hanson and Bob Mercier. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward H. and Marion C. Mercier; along with nine other siblings. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 2, 2010. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Luncheon to follow at the Eagle Crest. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ed\'s name to HospiceCare Inc.\r\n
