Obituary
MIDDLETON-Martin C. "Pete" Peterson, age 85, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2010. He was born on December 20, 1924, in Big Flats, the son of Christ and Hazel (Madsen) Peterson. Martin attended Niebul Grade School and Adams-Friendship High School. Martin came to Madison to attend the UW-Madison "short course" to study agriculture and then worked for the University Farms. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944. Martin was united in marriage to Ardis Wilkins in 1947. They have four daughters; Karen (Wayne) Vandre, Margie Groom, Debi Hankins and Julie (John) Murray. Martin retired from the University Farms in 1987 after 44 years of service. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing but treasured most the time he spent with his family. After retirement he spent winters in Arizona, summers in "the woods" and learned the art of woodcarving. Martin is survived by Ardis, his wife of 63 years; four daughters; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Herbert (Dorothy) Peterson; a sister-in-law Leota (Alvin)Peterson, and many nieces and nephews. Martin was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Alvin Peterson; a son-in-law Tom Hankins and a nephew Alvy Peterson. Martin was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and faithful servant of God. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, great uncle and neighbor. Funeral services will be held at ST. LUKE'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7337 Hubbard Ave., Middleton at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 14, 2010 with the Reverend Heather Lampert presiding. Family burial will be in St. Luke's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church. The family would like to thank the Sterling House of Middleton and HospiceCare, Inc. for their compassionate care of " Pete".
