Obituary

WESTFIELD-On Thursday, May 27, 2010, Judie lost her long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at home in the presence of her loving family. Judie was born to Bertram and Helen Ragatz McCormick on Sept. 25, 1935, in Madison. She was a member of the Madison East High School class of 1953. After her children were grown, she went back to school at the University of Wisconsin, where she received a bachelor of science degree in nursing. After graduating, her first job was with the American Red Cross. There she treated many Amish children who suffered from a blood disease called hemophilia. Judie enjoyed working with the Amish and she earned their trust. She remained good friends with many of the families. From there, she went on to her next job at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in the Employee Health Department. She was in charge of the flu clinic for many years. After retirement from the university, she and husband Tom moved to Wood Lake in Westfield, where she had spent summers with her parents. They spent winters at their home in Cape Coral, Fla. She enjoyed many trips to the Florida Keys in the family boat. Judie also loved a special island named Cayo Costa. This island can be reached only by boat. Here she would take her kayak and explore many areas of wildlife. She found manatees, dolphins and various forms of wildlife. Judie loved nature and spending time in the outdoors. She loved gardening and the flowers in front of her home were enjoyed by many of the residents of Wood Lake. Judie was a very active person. She loved to play golf and one of her accomplishments was having three different "Holes in one". Judie was a former member of Cherokee, Maple Bluff and Waushara Country Clubs. She also earned her pilots license and was certified to fly single engine airplanes. Judie is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Dr. Thomas Wipperfurth; son, Dr. Gregory (Sally) Wipperfurth of Cambridge; four daughters, Joan Nocenti of Green Bay, Lynn (Edward Hassett) of Westfield, Lisa Wipperfurth of Fort Worth, Texas and Nancy (Bruce) Dober of Cary, N.C.; grandchildren, Tom Hassett, Maria Nocenti, Alex Nocent, Ryan Miller, Rhett Miller, Lindsey Dober, and Brent Dober; and a very special kitty by the name of Fluffy Jean. Judie had so many friends and among them are five special couples that shared Friday evening fish fries for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, James McCormick. The family wishes to thank Home Health United Hospice for their guidance and loving care, the Paul Carbone Cancer Center, and the Mayo Clinic. A very special thank you to Dr. Mark Davis for his care through out the years. Judie we will miss you so very much, but the suffering is now over. The tiny lights of heavens stars and the music that the angels sing cant compare to the music down here. You are now holding hands with Jesus, and we await the time when we again will be with you. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, with Monsignor Michael Hippee and Father Michael Richel concelebrating. A visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. My thoughts have been with Tom and his family. I know it is very hard to lose someone that is such a large part of so many people's lives. I pray in time you will find peace with your memories of Judy and wonderful years you all shared together as a family. She was a wonderful woman and kind friend to me.

Hi Nancy, I'm not sure if you remember me or not. I dated Jim Kopatz way back when, when you and Bruce first met. I read in the paper about your mom passing. Nancy I'm so sorry. It's so hard to lose a parent. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Rita
