Esther Nielsen

Nielsen, Esther H. OREGON/STOUGHTON/WAUNAKEE-Esther H. Nielsen, age 88, of Oregon, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Skaalen Home. She was born on Oct. 16, 1921, in Cashton, the daughter of Edwin and Hattie (Thompson) Hegenbarth. Esther grew up in Cashton, then moved to Greenwood until 1940. She graduated from Greenwood High School. Esther married Maurice Nielsen on Dec. 25, 1940, in Greenwood. They moved to Oregon in 1940. Esther worked as an administrative assistant for the State of Wisconsin, Department of Public Instruction, Division of Handicapped Children for 20 years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Oregon, Martha's Circle, the church quilting group, ELCW of St. John's, Eastern Star, South Side Birthday Club and Silver Threads organization. Esther is survived by her son, Harold (Mary Francis) of Monona; daughter, Carmen (Henry) Kruschek of Waunakee; grandchildren, Darla (Chris) Dade, Lisa (Greg) Agnew, Diane (Dirk) Faber, and Daniel (Annette) Kruschek; great-grandchildren, Hattie, Charles, Issac and Elijah Kruschek, Miller Paige Agnew, and Annika Faber; step grandchildren, Jeffrey (Kelly) Francis, Joy (Dave) Jenkins, and John (Tiffany) Francis; step-great-grandchildren, Ann, Sarah, Jared and Mitchell Jenkins, Kayla, John, Joshua Francis and Beckham Francis; and Drew Agnew; sisters, Minerva Sorenson, Leona Tieman, and Catherine (Marvin) Karlen; an aunt; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice M. Nielsen; her parents; sisters, Alice Hanson and Hazel Hegenbarth; brothers-in-law, Donald Sorenson, Ronald Tieman, Clarence Nielsen and Elmer Nielson; and sisters-in-law, Rhoda Nielsen and Lucille Nielson. Funeral services will be held at ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 625 E. Netherwood, Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 12, 2010, with the Rev. Paul Markquart presiding. Burial will be at Prairie Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 431 Soden Drive, Oregon, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, 2010, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Memorials may be made to the family, who will establish a fund at a later date.
