Obituary
Middleton--Patricia Jean (Marshall) Turner, 80, passed away on April 23, 2010. She was born on January 6th, 1930 in Cardiff, South Wales, England. The second child of Frederick Marshall and Carrie Agnes Marshall (McKinnon). She grew up in Truro, Cornwall, England with her brother Keith. Pat was 9 when the war came and remembers the incendiary bombs that would fall here and there, the rare real bomb, and the machine gunning of the beaches. She became a Registered nurse in 1953. She met her future husband, Dr. James "Hamish" Turner at a hospital in Cornwall where they both worked. Pat and Hamish were married on August 24th, 1963 in Parrish Church, Cornwall, England. They had the opportunity to live in Madison for one year as a result of a Fulbright Grant, then returned to Scotland for two years. They had liked the U.S. so much that they moved back to Wisconsin permanently settling on Copper Ave. in Middleton in 1965. Four years later a son, David, was born. The family enjoyed camping, hiking, visiting museums and traveling together. After Hamish's unexpected death in 1981 Pat took on the huge responsibility of raising her son alone. She was a thoughtful and caring person who raised her son to be kind and considerate. In Pat's eyes no good deed could go unreciprocated. Friendships were important to Pat and she made lifelong friends of her neighbors and spouse's coworkers. Pat loved to work in her garden, sew and do fine embroidery. She especially enjoyed animals, almost always having one or two dogs and sharing her home with two macaws at one point. Pat enjoyed driving and drove herself all over the United States visiting her son while he was in the Navy. During her lifetime she saw most of the United States and numerous European Countries. Recently one of her greatest joys was welcoming her one and only grandson in July of 2009. Spending time watching him grow was one of her favorite pastimes. Pat was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her son, David, daughter-in-law, Marcy (nee Friedrich) and grandson Taran of Madison. The family would like to thank the staff of Coventry Village, St Mary's Hospital, St Mary's Care Center and Hospice Care for their exceptional care. Memorial services will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, at 6:00 pm on Friday, April 30, 2010. A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until the time of service at the funeral home on Friday.
