Obituary

Hanson, Lola A. MONONA-Lola A. (Gabler) Hanson, age 87, passed away on Sunday morning, April 18, 2010, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Palliative Care Unit after suffering a stroke 11 days prior. She was born to Walter and Lala (Arries) Gabler, in Eau Claire and grew up on a farm near Augusta with her parents and brother, Robert Gabler. Lola worked both as a nursing assistant and in retail sales in Eau Claire during World War II. After World War II, Lola met Francis Hanson and later married on June 19, 1948, in Eau Claire. They were married nearly 60 years until his passing on Dec. 7, 2007. Together, Lola and Francis raised a daughter and two sons in Monona. She also worked part-time in food service at Winnequah School in Monona for 20 years, enjoying the company of her co-workers. Lola was a devoted charter member of Monona United Methodist Church, and she enjoyed Hilltoppers meetings, Faith Circle prayer group, and family camping at Pine Lake United Methodist Church Camp. Lola enjoyed gardening throughout her life, true to her farming roots, and enjoyed laughing over life\'s joys as she found them. Lola was definitely a giver, not a taker. She mainly just wanted her family and friends to be happy and, if so, she was happy with them and for them. Lola courageously cared for her husband as his mind and body failed in the final years of his life, and unquestioningly supported her family. Lola is survived by sons, Paul (Gerri) of Monona and Lloyd (Joan) of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Lynn (Bill Davis) of Mosinee; grandchildren, Jennifer, Daniel (Diana) Ellerkamp, Kevin of Madison, Margaret of Carrollton, Texas, Michael of Denver, Colo., Brian of Dallas, Texas, and Andrea (Jose) Aucapina of Madison; two great-grandsons, Diego and Dahmien Aucapina; great-granddaughter, Deyshea Aucapina; brother, Robert (Delores) Gabler of Augusta; brother-in-law, Leo (Lorraine) Hanson of Gays Mills; cousin, Jeanette Borders of Evansville; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is also survived by dear friends, Marie Metry of Monona and former roommate, Shirley Meyer of Eau Claire. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lala Gabler; her husband, Francis; brother and sister-in-law, William and Gladys Peterson; and good friends and former roommates, Rena Gentry and Norma Stolt. Funeral services will be held at MONONA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 606 Nichols Road, Monona, on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at 2 p.m. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, from noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Monona United Methodist Church Pine Lake Scholarship Fund. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Palliative Care team at Aspirus Wausau Hospital for the care they gave Lola. "Lola, Mom, Grandma, may you now be at peace."
