Obituary
Berkvam, Gene M.FITCHBURG-Gene M. Berkvam, a wonderful man age 85, went to heaven on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, to watch over and guide his loving family. He will live forever in our hearts and memories. After a long illness on this earth, his courage and strength are a legacy to all of us who knew and loved him. Gene was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1924. He served as a proud member of the U.S. Army Air Force. Gene was a great man who taught our family the blessings of hard work, honesty, loyalty, and love. He always put the needs of others ahead of his own. While being dedicated to his work and family, Gene also built homes for families, including his own. He also had a successful dry cleaning business with Blanche. Not one to rest, Gene then worked at Sams Club as a greeter, where he was honored for his many years of dedicated service. St. Peter has already put him to work as a greeter at heavens gates. Gene was a hard worker his entire life. He took such pride in the woodwork creations he made for his family, which are now our treasures. Gene and his loving wife of 58 years, Blanche, have had so many happy times together and with their daughter, son-in-law, three cherished grandchildren, and friends. His beautiful wife, Blanche, loving daughter, Debbie, devoted son-in-law, Tim, and treasured grandchildren, Matt, Emily, and Marissa will forever hold his memory and spirit in their hearts. Genes spirit is now gloriously with his children, Steven and Sandy; parents, Arnie and Anna, brothers, Bob, Paul, John, and Donald; and friends who went to heaven before him. Our family is so grateful to Pastor Bruce Loewenhagen, Peggy Bezruki, friends, and family for their unwavering love and support. It is our honor to call Gene husband, son, brother, Dad, and Papa. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL HOME, 2950 Chapel Valley Rd., Fitchburg, at noon on Saturday, March 13, 2010, with the Rev. Bruce Loewenhagen presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Midvale Lutheran Church.
