Obituary

Newton, Merton R. OREGON/MADISON-Merton R. Newton, age 76, of Oregon, passed away peacefully with family present on Sunday, March 21, 2010, at Oregon Manor. He was born on Nov. 4, 1933, in Oregon, the son of Curtis and Evelyn (Denton) Newton. Merton graduated from Oregon High School. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1953 until 1956. Merton married Marilyn King on Oct. 13, 1956, at Monona Evangelical Lutheran Church. He worked for Bancroft Dairy for more then 40 years. Merton and Marilyn were dog breeders for many years. He is survived by two sons, Greg (Mary) and Robert (Bonnie); five grandchildren, Jon (Jessie), Melissa (Justin), Sandra (Terry), Toni (Rick) and Brian (Susan); 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, William (Deborah); and many nieces and nephews. Merton was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn; a son, Michael; great-grandson, Trent; brother, C. Alton; and sisters, Della Jones and Mava Williams. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 431 Soden Drive, Oregon, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 28, 2010, with the Rev. William Pekari presiding. Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens, at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 29, 2010. Neil and I are sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad. We are really sorry that we will not be able to be at visitation or at the funeral. We are in Orange Beach, AL (by Gulf Shores) and will not be home until the day before Easter. Mert always made a person feel special because he took the time to talk to you. He will be missed.
