Obituary

MIDDLETON-John Soderholm was born March 18, 1929, the second son of John and Esther Soderholm, and died at home after a long illness on March 14, 2010. After graduating from West High in 1946, he joined the Army and served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne in Japan. He was a long time member and past commander of the VFW William "Sonny" Simon Post No 8216 and a Middleton volunteer fireman for 15 years. John played first base for the Middleton Home Talent League in the 1950s and early 1960s. He was employed by Madison Gas & Electric Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1991. John married the former Marie Saeman in 1954 and she survives him along with their five children; Karen and Andy (Jen) of Middleton; Judy (Eric) Lindblad, David and Paul (Susan) of Littleton, CO., five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is further survived by his brother Thor (Joanne) of Madison. Funeral services will be held at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave, Middleton at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 20, 2010 with Monsignor Douglas Dushack presiding. Private burial will be held. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare, Inc. or Middleton Outreach Ministry. Dear Marie and Family,You have our prays and sympathy.I have fond memories of John when he was a bartender at the driven on university ave.He was also a babysitter to me.Alowing me to have anything to eat at the bar I wanted. He tryed to teach me to play cards but I was not a good learner. I always remenber John as having a smile and I had a crush on him.I hope you all find comfort in the good memories.Love to you all.
