Skowronek, ElisabethMADISON - Elisabeth Skowronek, age 89, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2010, after a long illness. She was born on Aug 1, 1920, in Rybnik, Germany, the daughter of Anna Fischer. She married the love of her life, Rudolf Skowronek, on Dec. 29, 1943 in Rybnik. After the tragic death of their 8-year-old daughter, Karin, they moved to the U.S. in 1952 with their daughter, Anni. They eventually settled in Madison, where their daughter Gisela was born. Elisabeth (Liz or Liesel to her many friends) dearly loved her family, friends, and pets. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, baking, entertaining her friends, and having fun. People always enjoyed her company. Before retiring, she worked at Kroger Bakery, Frito Lay, and Ray-O-Vac. She is survived by her daughters; Anneliese (Steven) Emerson of Madison, Gisela (Robert) Newbegin of Morrisonville; her grandchildren, Nathaniel (Catherine Bode) and Stuart Emerson, Lauren White, Robert Jr. (Christine) and Andrew (Kristin Olson, fiancee) Newbegin; and great-grandchild, Blake Bridger Emerson. Elisabeth was preceded in death by her brother, Oskar; mother, Anna; husband, Rudy; and daughter, Karin. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2010, at 11:30 a.m. at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, with Father Patrick Norris officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare, 5395 E.
