Obituary

Lippert, Roderick James MCFARLAND-Roderick J. Lippert, age 83, died on Thursday, March 25, 2010, at UW Hospital, following a long illness of pulmonary disease. The son of Lenore and Leslie Lippert was born at Rib Lake, on Feb. 1, 1927. He graduated from Lincoln High in Wisconsin Rapids in 1945 and earned his LL.B. degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1955. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1945-1946 and was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard from 1955-1974, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He served as Supervisor of Incorporations, Department of State, State of Wisconsin from 1955-1960, relating to administration of the corporate laws of the State of Wisconsin; from 1960-1968, he served as Special Assistant Attorney General, Securities Department, and was responsible for legal matters relating to interpretation, administration and prosecution of violators of the Wisconsin securities law; from 1968-1976, he served as legal advisor and Deputy State Director of the Selective Service System for the State of Wisconsin, responsible for the interpretation of the law, prosecution of violators and administrative duties. From 1955 until the time of his retirement, he was a member of the law firm of Lippert, Lippert and Lippert, Madison. He was an invited speaker at the Wisconsin Bar Association meetings relating to corporate and security laws. He was also invited speaker at the national meetings of the North American Security Administrators. He received the Exceptional Service Award in recognition of outstanding service of exceptional benefit to the nation and the Selective Service System in June 1974, by the U. S. Government. Past and present memberships include the State Bar of Wisconsin, Dane County Bar Association, Wisconsin Alumni Association, Phi Delta Phi and Acacia fraternities, Wisconsin National Guard, Wisconsin Trial Lawyers Association, National Small Business Association, Madison Area Radio Control Club of which he was honored with a lifetime membership, Academy of Model Aeronautics, past commander of Madison Commandry, 50 year member of Hiram Lodge No. 50 and a 46 year member as a Scottish Rite Mason, Zor Shrine Band and Arab Patrol, a member of the American Legion and the VFW Post 1318, a past Noble Grand of the International Order of Odd Fellows, Hope Lodge No. 17, and currently serving as its treasurer. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, past treasurer and member of the Chancel Choir, and served on the board of directors of the UCC retirement campus in New Glarus. He was predeceased by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Marleen; brother, Eugene (Janet) Lippert of Ocala, Fla.; sister-in-law, Birdine Steinmetz; nephew, Donald (Susanne) Steinmetz; niece, Susan (Thomas) Tenhover; great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; cousins; and a good friend, Richard Christofferson. He was a man of many interests and talents from making cheese in his early years, to collecting and repairing antique clocks, building radio-controlled airplanes and model cars. He thoroughly enjoyed his career as an attorney. Marleen expresses her sincere gratitude to Dr. L. Fleming and Dr. N. Jarjour for the excellent medical care he received from them over many years. I met my uncle "Rod" in 1973. I was 8 years old, the son of his half-brother Thomas Charles. I remember him as being nice and quite fun. Justin Thomas Lippert
