Obituary

Minor, Vernon W. MONONA/MCFARLAND-Vernon W. Minor, age 89, formerly of Monona, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2010, with his loving wife by his side. He was born on June 21, 1920, in Leola, S.D., the son of Charles "Bill" and Minnie (Lebermann) Minor. Vernon graduated from Madison East High School in 1938. He was united in marriage to Florence Wangsness on May 1, 1943. After high school, Vernon began working as a printer for Webcrafters, retiring after 39 years. In addition to Webcrafters, he was always keeping busy with repairing televisions and radios during the 50s and 60s. Vernon was a very active member of East Side Business Men\'s Association and served as president in 1987. He also was a member and past president of Yahara Fishermen\'s Club, and a member of Monona Evangelical Lutheran Church for more than 60 years and was active in the church choir. Vernon and Florence especially enjoyed their time together, traveling, fishing, spending time with family, and trips to the Northwoods at their cabin in Cable. Vernon always carried a fishing rod, just in case the fish were biting. He also enjoyed hunting. Vernon started playing the guitar at age 11 and was an original member of the Goose Island Ramblers band, playing together for more than 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Florence;daughter, Joy (Don) Hamburg of Sun Prairie; two grandsons, Vincent LaMore of Madison, and Brian LaMore of Marshall and his daughter, Karhma LaMore; and sister-in-law, Mabel Minor of Madison. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Stella and Stan Salverson; and brother, Ernest Minor. Funeral services will be held at MONONA EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4411 Monona Drive, Monona, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, 2010, with the Rev. William Pekari presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 22, 2010. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Monona Evangelical Lutheran Church or HospiceCare Inc.
