Obituary

MADISON - Ruth Marie (Culumber) Gnesin passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Meriter Hospital in Madison. She was born November 19, 1919 in Tower Hill, Illinois. In 1925 she moved with her family to Decatur Illinois, where she attended Ulrich Elementary, Roosevelt Jr. High, Decatur High and Millikin University. During WWII, she worked as a tool grinder at Caterpillar Company making war materials. After the war, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she studied and worked in several different careers. She retired to Madison, Wisconsin where she served as a volunteer for the Madison Senior Center for 26 years. She was also an active member of the Program Advisory Committee and a longtime editor and reporter for the Senior Center newsletter. She was also an active member of the XYZ Club at Bethel Lutheran Church and the Red Hat Mamma's Chapter of the Red Hat Society. She was preceded in death by her parents, Della and Jesse Culumber, four sisters, a grandnephew and two grandnieces. She is survived by her sister, Betty Denney and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 20, 2010 in the Community Room at the CAPITAL CENTRE, 333W. Dayton Street, Madison with the Reverend Curt Everson presiding. Inurnment will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ruth's name to a charity of your choice. Ruth will be greatly missed by all of her friends and family, but will remain in our hearts forever.
