Obituary
MONONA- Martin Damon, 85, of Monona, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, peacefully at his home. He was born on Jan. 23, 1925, in Mazomanie, the son of Martin Robert Damon and Murina (Crary) Shields. Martin married Vivian Carstensen on Sept. 4, 1948, in Madison. He served his country in World War II, where he was in the Army. Martin worked for Central Soya for 37 years. He also worked for 43 years, ushering at UW and WIAA events. Martin enjoyed fishing, baseball games and football games. He was a member of Northside Christian Assembly Church for 62 years and of VFW #1318. Martin is survived by his children, Richard (Christine), Linda (Thomas) Kennedy, Rodney (Wellita), Gail (Leonard) Hoffman, David, and Mark (Burnadine); sixteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife Vivian, who passed away in 2000; his sisters; and a little brother. Funeral services will be held at NORTHSIDE CHRISTIAN ASSEMBLY, 709 Northport Dr., Madison, on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Joe Oby presiding. Burial will be at Blooming Grove Cemetery, with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, and also on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at the church. Memorials may be made in Martins name to the UW Foundation. We will be waiting the cheers from heaven at the next UW game.
