Wood, Evelyn L.MADISON - Evelyn L. Wood, age 78, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at Oak Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Jan. 3, 1932, in Madison, the daughter of Elmo and Helen (Derra) Wilke. Evelyn graduated from Madison East High School in 1948. She married A. Gene Wood on Dec. 8, 1952 and enjoyed 48 years together. Evelyn worked for the State of Wisconsin Department of Employee Relations, retiring in 1995. Evelyn and Gene owned and operated Openaire roller rink in Stoughton. She loved to travel and her free spirit led her on some amazing adventures. Evelyn enjoyed playing bingo, bowling with numerous bowling leagues, and loved going out to dinner. She was a frugal shopper, always looking for the best deals. Evelyn and her husband Gene were always together, as they were truly life partners. Evelyn is survived by her children, Debra Denton of Madison, Lynda Wood of St. Louis, Mo., Mike Wood of Madison, and Cyndi (Scott Smith) Wood of Madison; eight grandchildren, Jessica Hecht, Amanda (Dustin) Campbell, Stephanie (Patrick) Banister, Alysia Wood-Sankey, Zachary Denton, Luciano Vignali, Obie Jagodinski, and Madison Jagodinski; two great-grandchildren, Jet Souvannarath and Christopher Banister; sister, Barbara (Allen) Phillips of Tuscon, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Wayne (Alice) Wood of Janesville; and numerous nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene in 2000; and an infant sister. Funeral services will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens Chapel, 7302 Mineral Point Rd, Madison, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison,on Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
