Rowley, Eleanor C.MONONA-Eleanor C. Rowley, age 87, of Monona, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, in her home. She was born on Oct. 12, 1922, in Madison, the daughter of Engelbert and Veronica (Hilgart) Schlimgen. Eleanor graduated from Madison East High School in 1940. She married Jonas Rowley on June 8, 1943, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Madison. Eleanor and Jonas spent their early married life on Syene Road, and then later moved to the house she helped build in Monona. She spent the rest of her life making a home for her family. Eleanor was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She hosted the Schlimgen family Thanksgivings and Easters for the last 40 plus years. Eleanors favorite time of year was Christmas. She enjoyed bowling, bridge, sewing, crafts, and golf, was an avid reader, and loved working on puzzles. Eleanor also enjoyed traveling with her husband, and in her later years with family and friends. She continued to knit and crochet up until her final days. Eleanor never had idle hands. She is survived by her children, Penelope, Aleta, Mark, Royanne, and Chris (Suzanne); grandchildren, Bradly (Michele) and Andrew (Olivia); great-grandchildren, Kate, Tim, Jack, and Matt; brothers, Frederick (Frances) Schlimgen and Maurice (MaryKay) Schlimgen; sisters, MaryJo (Darvin) Esser and Virginia (Edwin) Sanborn; and many loving nieces and nephews. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Hildegard; and brother, Herbert. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, with Father John Meinholz presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., and at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Eleanors favorite charity was St. Jude Childrens Hospital. Memorials: Eleanors favorite charity was St. Jude Childrens Hospital. Visitation: Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, with a Rosary service at 7:30 p.m., and at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
