Obituary

MADISON - Susan Balliette, age 70, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Dec. 28, 2023. She was born in Madison, Wis., on Jan. 11, 1953, to Ruth and Roger Balliette.

Susan lived a remarkably full life, with many friends and loved ones. She was passionate about the arts, music, animals, nature, writing, God, community, activism, Star Trek, WORT Radio, and connecting with others. She found many ways to fulfill her interests, undeterred by being born legally blind. Susan graduated from LaFollette High School in 1971 and received her bachelor’s degree in communication arts from UW Madison in 1990.

Susan will be deeply missed by many.

Sue and her dad Roger were active members of the Madison Astronomical Society back in the late 60s to late 1980s. While working on a history of the club a couple of years ago, I located Sue and spent many hours talking to her on the phone and interviewing her about her years in the club. Those were very meaningful years to her and it was great to help her reconnect with MAS in the 2020s. I was very sorry to hear of her passing - my condolences to the family and her friends.

When I lived in Monona I knew Susan through our Church. Susan was deeply committed to Social Justice. She was thoughtful and respected other points of view. I admired her perseverance in staying engaged in her many activities despite her health challenges .
