Pirkl, Helen
MADISON/WAUNAKEE/LODI - Helen F. Pirkl, age 92, died on Monday, March 1, 2010, at Lodi Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Lodi.  She was born on Jan. 3, 1918, in Platteville, the daughter of Henry and Sophie (Hanzel) Shafer.  Helen married Marvin Pirkl on Dec. 1, 1951, at Hope Lutheran Church, Cottage Grove.  He preceded her in death in 1993.  She enjoyed long walks, working in her flower gardens, time spent with her precious great-grandchildren, and trips to the Milwaukee Broadway series with her extended family.  Helen is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Robert) Anderson of Westport, and Sandra (Tom) Holtan of Cambridge; two grandchildren, Robert (Jenny) Anderson and Brenda Martin; four great-grandchildren, Jason, Karrie, Kelsey, and Nathan Anderson; brother, Donald (Sharryl Rogers) Schaffer of Eugene, Ore.; sisters-in-law, Joan Schafer, June Schafer, Barbara Schafer and Shirley Schaffer; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; two sisters, Mary and Betty; four brothers, Joe, Bob, and John Schafer, and Tom Schaffer; sister-in-law, Irene Ellestad; brother-in-law, Robert Pond; and two infant sisters.  Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2010, with the Rev. Dean Kirst presiding.  Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lodi Good Samaritan Society, Activity Department, 700 Clark St., Lodi, Wisconsin, 53555.  Helen’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Lodi Good Samaritan for all their care and support.

Cemetery:
