Obituary for Dorothy C. Christenson

WAUNAKEE/REEDSBURG – Dorothy C. Christenson, age 97, of Waunakee, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016, at Waunakee Manor. She was born in the township of Reedsburg, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Hartman) Tietje, on July 4, 1918. Dorothy graduated from Reedsburg High School in 1936. On June 1, 1941, she married Arno Schroeder, who preceded her in death on July 27, 1974. Dorothy and Arno moved to Madison in 1954. She was employed with the United States Armed Forces Institute (USAFI) from 1963 until it closed in 1974. Dorothy was later employed with the Department of Military Affairs at Truax from 1975 until retirement in March, 1983. Through the years, she enjoyed golf, bowling, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. On Sept. 15, 1977, she married Norman Christenson. Dorothy is survived by her two sons, John (Trudy) Schroeder of Tustin, Calif., and Richard (Joanne) Schroeder of Madison; three grandchildren, Kelly (Albert) Miramontes of California, Lindsay (Joe) Schroeder-Treichel of Savage, Minn., and Brett (Gina) Schroeder of St. Louis Park, Minn.; three step-grandchildren, Kristi (Tom) Manus of Clarks Ridge, Tenn., Kelli (Robert) Heaney of Madison and Mark (Erica) Christenson of Pewaukee; step-granddaughter-in-law, Ann Christenson; a step-grandson, Timothy Manus; step-son-in-law, John Flick of Tennessee.; nieces and nephews; many great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Reinhold, and George Tietje; two sisters, Vila Hong and Della Wendlandt; a step-daughter-in-law, Nancy Flick; and a step-grandchild, Eric Christenson. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1pm on Sunday, April 3, 2016. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 noon until the time of the service on Sunday with a luncheon to follow.
