Obituary for Laura E. Laundrie
COTTAGE GROVE-Laura E. Laundrie, age 51, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Sept. 13, 1961, the daughter of Ronald and Delores (Launder) Starkey. Laura married David Laundrie on Nov. 26, 1994, in Madison. She worked as a certified medical coder in several medical specialties for more than 20 years in Madison. Laura was a great mother, wife, friend, and “granny”. Her family was the most important part of her life and she was especially blessed with the opportunity to hold her new granddaughter, Kylie, born on Aug. 22, 2013, just days before she died. Laura was considered a great listener and loved to hear about people’s lives. She was a great mother figure who mentored many kids along the way. She was easy to talk to and is considered a best friend to many who knew her. Laura loved to entertain and have people over to the house for any reason. She loved holidays, and was generous with her gifts and love, never expecting anything in return. While very laid back, she also was a strong person who had high expectations for all of us to be our best. Laura had a great sense of humor and was known for her practical jokes that family, friends, and coworkers will long remember. She was a die-hard Parrot Head having attended Jimmy Buffett concerts as often as she could and especially enjoyed the pre-concert partying. Laura loved listening to Bob Marley, trips to Jamaica and drinking Dirty Bananas. She loved to shop, especially for shoes and for everyone else. She loved the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers. Laura hopes you will celebrate her life with lots of fun and laughter in mind. She is in the arms of her Mom and Dad and holds her family and friends in her heart forever. Laura is survived by her husband, David and their dog Jade; children, Tyler (Megan) Kaech and their children, Mason and Kylie, and Sara (John) Losse and their dog Bella; siblings, Cindy Starkey, Kathy (Joe) Waite, Tanya (Jimmy) Zempel, and Ronnie (Gina) Starkey; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Michelle Cihla, Jon (Marsha) Laundrie, Andy (Pam) Laundrie, Jerry Laundrie, Tony Laundrie, and Heidi Laundrie; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Gloria Laundrie; and many other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Laura’s Life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, with the Rev. Jeff Vanden Heuvel presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. Laura’s wishes were to have a tropical theme for this celebration so tropical attire is encouraged.
