Obituary for Veronica Mary Harrop

MIDDLETON – Veronica Mary Harrop, age 99, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on Dec. 5, 1917 in Mazomanie, the oldest of six children, to Allie and Kunie (Annen) Statz. She graduated from Mazomanie High School in 1936. Veronica was united in marriage to Donald Ralph Harrop on Feb. 11, 1939, at St. Barnabas Church in Mazomanie. They moved to Milwaukee, returned to Dane County, Cross Plains and Mazomanie, before settling in Middleton where they built their home in 1953. She was a member of the Christian Mothers of St. Bernard Parish, the Women's Optimists Club, and an avid bridge player. Veronica was the bookkeeper for Statz and Harrop Painting Contractors and also for their rental properties. Her crafts from A to Z were her enjoyment; 18 Christmas trees, dancing, and traveling, but her true passion was her family and friends where for over 32 years they made memories at "The Farm" in Neillsville. Veronica is survived by her loving husband of 78 years, Donald; two sons, James D. (Thelma) and R. Michael (Elaine); daughter Mary Anne (Gerard) Nonn; brother, Norbert Statz; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, James D. Harrop; sons William D. and Donald D.; daughter, Judith A. Nelson; three sisters, Bernetta Grosse, twins Doris Statz (infant) and Dorothy Fruitger; brother, Herbert Statz; daughter-in-law, Pauline Harrop; and great-grandson, Marcus Harrop. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
