Obituary for Beverly Ann Brattlie

BARNEVELD- Beverly Ann Brattlie, 76, of Barneveld, passed away on Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, at Meriter Hospital after a long illness. Bev was born on May 9, 1943, in Madison, to Marie (Gronli) Dodge and Leland Dodge and was the youngest of four children. She graduated from Barneveld High School in 1961 and married Kenneth Brattlie on April 7, 1962.

Bev became a farmer when she married, and she made the transition quickly to country life. Her workday started at dawn with milking cows and lasted well into the evening helping her daughters with homework. She was a member of Perry Lutheran Church and served on its council and taught Sunday School for many years. In addition, Bev served on the Barneveld School Board for more than ten years. She was a super fan when watching her daughters play basketball and her grandkids participate in various sports and activities. After her daughters grew up, Bev began working off the farm at various businesses, including Rural Mutual and Mt. Horeb Mail. Her life revolved around her family, and she was known to give large amounts of chocolate to her grandkids even at breakfast. Bev had a large circle of friends, including a pen pal from Wales, England, whom she started corresponding with when she was eight years old. She enjoyed her time with family and friends at lunches, day trips to area attractions, and playing cards. She took several trips with her sisters, including visiting the family homestead in Kjeldbotn, Norway, in 1994 where she sat on the same cabin steps as her great-grandfather. Bev and Ken took trips to Branson for their 50th anniversary and a train trip to Austin, Texas, to visit a daughter, plus other traveling.

Bev is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ken; children, Lisa Carmody (John), Sonia Brattlie Miller (Tim Miller), Kathy Brattlie (Michael Ladin) and Cheryl Brattlie (Alan Pizer); eight grandchildren, Tony Carmody, Melissa Gerber (Sean), Nick Miller, Hannah Miller, Alexandria Tomaw (Abbie Green), Claire Tomaw, Zoe Brattlie and Naomi Pizer; in-laws, Richard Dauck, Monica Brattlie, and Marie and Marvin McCoy; and many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard Dodge; sisters, Marilyn Dauck and Nancy Massey; brothers-in-law, Reginald Brattlie, and William Massey; sister-in-law, Charlene Dodge; nephew, Brian Brattlie; and niece, Vicki Dodge.

A funeral service will be at PERRY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1057 WI-78 Trunk, Mount Horeb, on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at 11 a.m. Visitation is at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. A luncheon will follow the service.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Meriter Hospital, especially those on the Heart floor and ICU. Their compassion and expertise meant so much to Bev and her family. Bev had amazing long-term care with Dr. Joseph Bellisimo, Dr. Daniela Constantinescu and nurse Renee Lannoye Amble. Bev and her family also received loving spiritual care from Pastor Kelli Fischer.

In lieu of flowers, please consider sending donations to Perry Lutheran Church in Bev's name.
